Samaritan Children Home:

Samaritan Children Home is a key activity of HELP Bangladesh where 203 boys and 205 girls are staying. There are 19 students attending college and are staying in the Joy Hostel. The children are  underprivileged, coming from families under abject poverty and belonging to single parent families or  orphans. Children admitted here are coming from different parts of the country irrespective of cast and religion. At present these children are mostly  from 48 districts. The main objective is to provide them with all requirements needed to grow potentially. Therefore, formal education for them has been considered as a priority area to begin with. The organization provides proper  accommodations, healthcare, food, skill training, different games, cultural practices and moral support so that they can build their own future.


Education Department:

Samaritan Children Home Primary and High School provides education to children from play group to grade 10 (SSC) and the national curriculum and its syllabus is being followed.. There are in total 604 students  in this reporting year. Various teaching methods and materials are adopted in the teaching and learning process. An application was submitted to the National Education Board by the school authority to get Junior level registration from grade VI ( Six ) to grade VIII ( Eight ). The inspection team  from the National Education Board and  Education Office had visited the School  quite a few times. Finally the school has got registration from the National Education Board on 8th November, 2012.

 

 

 

Joy Hostel (College Hostel) :

The children succeeded in SSC ( Secondary School Certificate ) public exams from Samaritan Children Home are staying in the Hostel for education.  The authority has a hope that Children with good result have an opportunity for higher education and they are being selected on priority basis to stay at Joy Hostel. Help Bangladesh has arranged   separate accommodation and other essential services and facilities for them. Besides  education they are being always encouraged to avail other opportunities and scope around which would help them to be more confident enough to live in the society.

 

 

Medical Department

The medical department has provided medical services to 2117 patients in 2012. The department is composed of a MBBS doctor, senior nurse, other nurses, pathology technicians and pharmacist. The department has an emergency unit to deliver health care services to out  patients coming from adjacent area . There are rooms available separately for boys and girls of the Children Home. The patients are coming mainly with cough and cold,  skin disease, scabies, pain in stomach, headache, gastric pain, typhoid, cut injury, malaria  etc. The pathological tests were conducted for Blood Grouping, Widal, CRP, Urine R/E, MP Test, Hemoglobin, CBC test. The children who suffere much due to  complication and sustain injuries are sent to Enam Medical College Hospital at Savar for proper  treatment. Health and hygiene advices were imparted through organizing classes for those in appropriate with their age and sex. Doctor and nurses are to deal with affairs particularly with the girls as they can realize their internal problems and take precaution in advance.  

 

Micro-Credit Program :

There are 1237 women members in 84 groups under the Micro credit propram activities.  Presently the program has covered 10 villages adjacent to The Children Home. The Loan and security scheme was introduced in 2011 to support the families for income generation and in case of sudden death of the loanee the remaining loan amount is now being erased. Two women from two villages at the age of 35 and 40 have died in 2012 who took loan from this project. The outstanding loans of those women were paid up under this scheme.  This instance has created a positive impact and more  confidence towards the program indeed.
The women received loans from the Micro Credit project and involve themselves in some trades such as grocery shops, poultry farms, vegetables and fruits plants, raring cow and goats, tea stalls, flower gardening and tailoring. They earned profits according to their ability and investment and efforts paid by the member and others family members. This is one of the key approach to bring income into the family and this becomes a good effort to eliminate poverty in future. The women are becoming self reliant and bringing solvency in there family


Sewing Department :

The purpose of the sewing project is mainly for the girls who are weak in education. The main aim is to develop them with skills and practical experiences to live on in the future. The girls who are repeatedly in same class and feel bored with formal education are asked to go under this program indeed. It is noted here that the girls are now quite capable and fairly equipped for making ladies garments at the locality. They already have started cutting and stitching. The other girls are working as trainees. The sewing project also provides training to the community women. They participate in this training course and make them competent enough to earn an additional income for their families. The trained women use to spend some of its portion for their child’s schooling and rest for the families needs. This is one of the way forward to become empowered in the family and the community.

The community people are happy with this project as the they  have an access to buy finished materials and other goods available at the training centre. The centre is also keeping various kinds of dresses, cosmetics items, dry foods and other necessary accessories to meet the demand of the community people. It is noteworthy to mention here that the cost of the project is covered from its income..

 

Computer Training Center :

Computer department / center is an important sector of HELP Bangladesh. This Section performs day to day work of HELP Bangladesh. The department looks after all computers and ICT equipments with other sections and deals with any trouble they face in work. This centers primary objective is to teach computer literacy to the students of grade VI to grade X of Samaritan Children Home High School and takes exams accordingly. The department has also designed a computer course for the outside students. The duration of the training course is two months. The students get a certificate after completion of the training.




Sponsor Department :

The department makes regular contact with the sponsors of the children in Australia, America and Netherlands and sends the necessary reports as required time to time. The department has a key job to respond to any inquiry from sponsors and donors. The case histories of new children admitted in the Children Home are being prepared and accordingly being sent to the donors for sponsorship. This department is responsible to send Christmas greetings cards to the sponsors on behalf of children and the organization.  Letters received from sponsors which are required to be translated in Bangla for children and their reply to those into English are done by this department. This department has been assigned to deal with all affairs regarding gifts for children from donors and sponsors.  




Mechanical Training Center :

Mechanical Department has been establish especially for the boys who are weak in education. This is an opportunity created for them to be a skilled person during their stay in the home. The organization has a significant role to explore their potentials and help them grow accordingly. It is obvious that every child does not have same feat to continue education and therefore, the authority has the responsibility to open other avenue for their livelihood.

The duration of the training course is one year. The training course starts in July so that the students who failed in Secondary School Certificate or Higher Secondary Certificate exams can participate in this training course. A limited number of trainees admitted in the course with a consideration that they can be given intensive   training. There were seven trainees in last base, of them two were from outside. As the students are poor in education they need more time for theoretical class. Beside the theoretical classes there are a good number of practical work too. The center has arranged and done some finish products for outside customers, even for the organization on demand.  They gain more knowledge and experiences through this kind of work. They complete Bench works, Machines ( Leigh, Milling, Grading and Drilling), Welding ( Gas and Ark ).
